As the sun crisps the grass in our front yard and we retreat, yet again, to the table, I’m still thinking about all those hours sprawled outside. If you haven’t tried it, hammock reading improves even the least inspiring book. Try the good ones first, please.

Butterfly Science
“What are these?” they asked. The butterflies reminded me of monarchs, but not quite. They were not as crisply defined, and smaller, their spread wings an ombré of fuzzy oranges.

It began with a simple art closet organization project – it’s been on my list awhile, oy – and progressed into an obsession. The day I became a sea turtle, that’s what I looked like at the pool. Did people look at me? Yes. That is what Rosetta wanted, only she thought they’d be jealous, haha.
Loving Your Kids’ Loves
body’s asking me for help, you see, and that’s the key point. My kids have no problem demanding assistance as needed, so the lack of communication actually means that they’re wanting space to explore – that’s how I take it.

Short week, due to illness. We celebrated a stuffy-headed Rosetta’s 9th birthday on Wednesday, inviting only the same people who got us sick and limiting the activity portion of the party to trampoline balloons and a hamster ball. Plus an aunt brought colorful wigs!
Surprise Cooking
When my kids are super into things like this, I try to roll along, and adjust quickly. As soon as they’d tried it once, they wanted to do it “2-3 times a week, and possibly for lunch and a breakfast.” Ooookay, then.
