This week, we tried a new way to organize our family by using lists. Each kid received a journal for Christmas that’s a daily, self-ordered checklist. We chose Wednesday to start, as that’s our home day, and began planning our day at the table after we finished reading. We picked up sushi from Sprouts that day and ate outside, enjoying the warmer weather and discussing which books we want to read next. Writing the goals themselves by Friday, we managed to get a few more tasks finished than usual by day’s end. They don’t seem to care about checking stuff off the list, just putting it on (that complaint is my own). After a long, slow January, this is my ramp-up to resuming regular activities by next week.
This was our last quiet week at home before the big indoor group resumes, so we had friends over, caught up on board games with Grandma (2x in a week!), read tarot, made tiny candy food, watched Ms Marvel + Amber Brown while painting our nails, baked cinnamon rolls + cuddled our cats.
We spent lots of time sledding this week. Our front yard always gets hit first, even though it’s a gentle, easy slope. But we took two trips to sled with friends as well. So much glorious snow – and perfect for sledding for once!
In that vein, I’ve tried to limit my photography this week as well. The kids have grown leery of me snapping a picture whenever they’re trying something new, and it’s starting to feel intrusive to me as well. I don’t need to document everything, right? I’m thinking about this more as I go along because we do all enjoy watching the digital frame churn out memories, and how did they get there? Hmm.
Did anyone have a relaxing Thanksgiving? Hmm. I am clearly doing it wrong! We had an early feast day due to my sisters’ work schedules, so we also had a friends game + dessert party on Thanksgiving evening. So that meant I spent many days cooking + baking instead of mainly one day doing thoseContinue reading “November 26 – Weekly Photos”
This week, Wilder helped me test a few recipes from Twist on Tofu by Corinne Trang. Having gone to H Mart last week for ingredients, we made Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches with daikon pickles and the Crispy Tofu Salad Rolls. He also mixed up the dough for scallion flatbreads while we waited for our picklesContinue reading “November 19 – Weekly Photos”
Early season trip to Moab at the end of last week, into this one, so lots of hiking and geology work. Plenty of time outside, peering at rocks of many types, and then returning home to a snow storm!
